"GAME OF THRONES": HOT PIE'S DIREWOLF BREAD.

One of the more touching parts of "Game Of Thrones" was when Hot Pie made an adorable little direwolf out of bread for Arya. Below is a recipe for a dough that can easily be sculpted, and is tasty too! It's a dense bread that doesn't rise much, and pairs nicely with soups and stews.

LOOT: 2 DIREWOLVES & 2 SMALL LOAVES, 4 SMALL LOAVES, OR 2 LARGE LOAVES

MATS.

1 packet active dry yeast

2 tbsp molasses

2 tbsp melted butter

1 1/2 cups warm milk

2 cups quick oats

2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

1 1/2 tsp salt

EQUIPMENT.

stand mixer with dough hook attachment

sheet pans

STRAT.

1.) In a stand mixer with the dough attachment, add the yeast, molasses, melted butter and warm milk. Mix until the ingredients start to come together and let it sit in the mixer until it starts to bubble, about 10 minutes.

2.) Add the quick oats to the mixer and combine until well mixed, about 3 minutes. Remember never to turn your mixer over the second speed, otherwise your bread will be very tough!

3.) Add the whole wheat flour and salt and mix until the dough forms a ball. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until it forms a nice ball.

4.) Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic or a towel, and let it rise for an hour and a half.

5.) Preheat oven to 375*F

6.) On a floured surface, turn your dough out of the bowl. Cut in half and roll out one half in a rectangle, roughly 12"x8". Dough should be about 1/2" thick.

7.) Cut out your wolf with a paring knife (I eyeballed it, I will be posting a template soon) and place on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Remember to to score your wolf with your knife to prevent the dough from rising. Roll out your second half and repeat.

8.) Form the leftover dough into 2 balls to make small loaves. You can try to make direwolves out of the scrap dough, but it is a lot harder to work with since the glutens have been worked so much by being rolled out once already.

9.) Place in the oven and bake the direwolves for 25 minutes, small loaves for 45 minutes, or large loaves for 1 hour.
