"GAME OF THRONES": BAKED APPLES.

A gourmet twist on the baked apples mentioned in the books. This is a star side dish that has the right sweet, spice, and different textures. Topped with sugars, cinnamon, walnuts and goat cheese, this will surely be a crowd-pleaser. This is one of my favorite recipes derived from the books, because not only do they taste out of this world, they also create such a lovely fragrance that fills your home as you bake them!

LOOT: 12 SERVINGS

MATS.

6 red apples (I prefer gala apples)

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tbsp cinnamon

2 tsp nutmeg

1 cup chopped walnuts

2 oz crumbled goat cheese

EQUIPMENT.

apple corer

9x13 casserole dish

knife

STRAT.

1.) Preheat your oven to 350*F

2.) Remove the core from all of the apples with an apple corer, then slice in half. If you do not have an apple corer, then slice the apple in half and scoop the core out with a spoon.

3.) Place the apple halves cut side up in a 9x13 casserole dish. Add about a 1/4" of water in the bottom of the pan (this will steam the apples and keep them moist)

4.) In a bowl, mix together the melted butter, dark brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and walnuts.

5.) Divide the sugar mixture evenly on top of the apples. Bake for 45 minutes.

6.) Remove the apples from the oven and sprinkle with goat cheese. Put back in the oven and let them bake an additional 15 minutes to soften the cheese.

7.) Remove the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before enjoying!
