MAKE IT LEGENDARY: PINEAPPLE KAHLUA BARBECUE SAUCE.
This sauce will go great with the recipe for Big Kahuna Burgers. It's sweet, tangy, and has a little bit of a kick. You'll never want to use jarred barbecue sauce ever again!
LOOT: 2 1/4 CUPS
MATS.
1 tbsp olive oil
3 garlic cloves
2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup kahlua
1 tbsp dijon mustard
1 1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, creates a sweet heat!)
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 bay leaf
EQUIPMENT.
medium saucepan
spatula
garlic press (or knife and cutting board)
STRAT.
1.) Mince the garlic cloves with either a garlic press or the old fashioned way with a knife and cutting board. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan. Add the garlic and cook until it just starts to turn color, about 2-3 minutes.
2.) Add all of the remaining ingredients (red pepper flakes optional) into the pot and mix thoroughly. Simmer on low, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring occasionally with a spatula. Make sure to scrape the edges and the bottom of the saucepan with the spatula to prevent the sauce from burning.
2.) Serve, or let cool and store in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
